Bitten, but chose Life

South Sudan, 2012
Anton and a small team set out on a mission to deliver Bibles to Poktap, a remote village 290 km from Juba, South Sudan. Traveling in a truck and two Land Cruisers, they pressed on through harsh terrain, determined to bring the Word of God to those who had never received it.
While on the mission, Anton climbed into his truck—only to be bitten on the ankle by something poisonous that was later found to be a Puffadder Bite. As the team moved back to Juba, he could feel death creeping into his body. That night, he prayed earnestly, telling God he was at peace with dying.
But then, something shifted.
The Holy Spirit spoke to him gently yet powerfully:
"Why don’t you change your prayer? Why not pray to live—to see your family again?"
That moment changed everything. Though his body was shutting down, Anton’s spirit rose up and he chose life.
He made it as far as Nairobi, Kenya, where a doctor refused to give him antivenom without seeing the snake. The only advice: “Rush home.” Fifteen days after the bite, Anton finally reached home—and was given the antivenom.
God preserved his life against all odds.
What the enemy meant for death, God turned into a testimony of life.
God is so good.
